Are you looking for an SEO strategy that will work to increase your traffic? Well keep reading, I will show you my four pillar SEO strategy that works and delivers results.
Alright, let start with pillar one of my SEO strategy framework.
Please your users SEO strategy.
So the first pillar of this SEO strategy is to focus on pleasing your users. What does it mean by pleasing your users? It means that users/ searchers should have a seamless experience on your website. And just to illustrate how important user experience is for SEO strategy performance. Here is a quote from JOHN MUELLER who is the head webmaster trans-analyst at google. He said
I see lots and lots of SEO blogs talking user experience, which I think is a great thing to focus on as well because of that essentially kind of focuses on what we are trying to look at as well. We want to rank content that is useful for them (Google search users) and if your content is really useful for them, then we want to rank it.
So the main take away here is that Google values user experience. So how do you go about actually improvising user experience on your websites? Improving user experience all starts with technical SEO. And there are two parts to technical SEO that you need to understand
- There are high impact technical issues
- Low impact technical issues.
The high impact you should focus on to improve your website technical performance and user experience is:
Your site loading speed.
I don’t know about you but a slow loading website is one of the most painful experiences you can have online. The truth is a slow loading website won’t only hurt your organic search performance, but it can hurt your business as well. According to HubSpot, a one-second delay in website loading speed can reduce conversions by 7%. That bad news the good news is that increasing your website loading speed can also have opposite effects. According to Mozilla Firefox, they were able to reduce their average website loading by 2.2 seconds which increased their download by 15.4%. When you think about it that a massive increase for a website like Firefox. This website increase traffic already increasing their loading speed.
Countless studies are showing the importance of website loading speed. This not only affects your organic but also your businesses as well. I am not going to bore with more detailed statistics.
3 seconds or less
Your website loading speed to 3 seconds and below and not captain obvious but lower is better. So the first thing you need to do to increase your website loading speed is to benchmark your current speed. My favorite tools for benchmarking website loading speed is Pingdom and GTmetrix.
After you run your website on these tools and know your website loading speed. So the next question is where do you start?
Well, there are countless resources online on how to improve your website speed, but there is ONE thing that is going to determine how fast your website actually loads. The one thing that’s going to determine how quickly your website loads is your Web hosting. Here is a thing you can make all micro change trying to improve your website loading speed but nothing is going to have a bigger impact than your actual web host. Check your website hosting and if getting started I recommend Greengeeks.
In case you have developed your website in WordPress their many plugins you can use. I have tried hundreds of web hosts plugin throughout the year and the only one that I can truly recommend that personalized used is WP Engine. So now you know the importance of a fast loading website. But now I want us to check the second big technical SEO action, you need to take.
Your Website Mobile friendly.
So honestly sound like a broken record at this point but it is so incredibly important that your website is mobile-friendly. This is because the majority of all traffic that coming to your website more than likely is going to be coming from mobile. There are some exceptions to the rules such as my website is primarily B2B traffic. I’m going to be getting a lot more desktop traffic but it is not always going to be that way. It is a safe action to take to make sure that your website is responsive and is friendly on a mobile device.
According to Smart Insights mobile digital media time is significantly higher at 51% compared to desktop at 42%. So how do you go about making your website mobile-friendly and responsive?
Our first step is to check if your website is currently mobile-friendly. The best way to accomplish this is to use Google’s tool for checking mobile-friendliness. You can check to google mobile-friendly test here. Enter your started URL and to get started, when a process is a complete google will tell you if your website is mobile-friendly or not.
So what do you do if your mobile is not mobile friendly? well, there are a few options.
- The first option is if you have the capital to invest you can reach out to web design and web development companies in your local area. You can even reach us and we will redesign your website just take our free audit and we will reach you a lot of option to choose from.
- In case you do not have the budget the best option is to do it yourself. But most importantly make sure you understand the coding of the website. This will avoid breaking the website. In case you are in WordPress use a responsive theme.
- Make sure you develop an effective site architecture. So I’m not going to get deep into how to develop site architecture, because there are tons of great sources out there.
This is about how easy and to flow through your website and is your website forcing them to think in anyway because a good website will feel seamless. The user will not even have to think as they’re trying to go through a website.
Effective site Architecture SEO strategy
- Improve UX
- Improve Crawling ( and Indexing)
- Build website Authority
Architecture is how well it can be crawled by google spiders because you want Google to be able to crawl your website effectively so it can index all the pages on your website into a search engine. The other thing is building the actual authority through architecture by SEO strategy. If you develop a great site architecture you’ll be able to spread precious backlinks authority through your entire website and even to most important pages. This will help your website to become more authoritative and your website becomes authoritative becomes much easier rank.
Other micro issues are important to fix to make sure that you’ve built a very strong foundation for your SEO campaign. The first micro technical you need to handle are;
- Broken links
- 404 errors
To find broken links you need to use a free tool like Brokenlinkcheck once you are there just enter your URL click and find broken links. Find to whatever type of SEO campaign sheet you’re using. You can then go through and start fixing all these broken links.
In case you are using WordPress, there is a plugin you can install called broken link checker, It will perform the same task as brokenlinkcheck.com. The only difference it will crawl your website and you’re going to be able to identify what those broken links are, probably at a higher rate than using brokenlinkcheck.com.
N/B Broken links and 404 errors do sometimes go hand in hand. But you should audit them separately because there certain circumstances where you need to take different actions depending on what you have identified.
The process when you find a broken link is straight forward. Go all your broken links and fix them and make not broken anymore. But when it comes to 404 errors, there are kind of different approach and there is some strategy behind 404 errors that appear on your website. In most cases, you just want to let the 404 pages be 404 pages. After all, it is a signal to Google that you want that page to be removed from the index because it no longer exists.
There are certain pages to continue to be 404 errors and usually, that one circumstance where you do not want a 404 to be pulled out of the index and to just be a 404 page is when that a 404 page has backlinks. And when 404 page has backlink you have two options,
- You can redirect that 404 pages to a relevant page on your website, and if there isn’t a relevant page on your website.
- Then you just want to take that 404 pages and redirect it to the home page so that you can salvage that link equity.
Google search console
Using Google search console. So to find 404 errors in google search console simply go to the crawl section, click on crawl errors, click on the not found tab, and then lastly go ahead and just export. After you export these 404 errors. You’ll want to see if anyone of these pages have backlinks. Copy all of URL’s and then open up your favorite backlink analysis tool. Now the check types of redirects that cause problems.
- 302 Redirects
- Redirect chains
The main reason why you want to fix 302 redirects is because of the small possibility that they do not pass link equity. The reason I am saying the possibility is because what John Mueller said back in 2016 about 302 redirects.
It’s incorrect that 302 redirects wouldn’t pass PageRank. That’s a myth.
So now although John Mueller is probably telling the truth is still a good idea to take the tried and tested approach which is to use 301 redirects because you know for sure that a 301 redirect is going to pass link equity. It will also pass page rank to the site you are redirecting to. The question is how do you find 302 redirects? In my experience, the most absolute best way to find 302 redirects is to use the Screaming Frog SEO spider. All you need now to find 302 redirects enter your domain and then start an analysis. After analysis, if you find any 302 redirects you just need to go the process of changing all those 302 redirects to 301 redirects.
So what is the redirect chain? A redirect chain occurs when you have a redirect redirecting to redirect. The reason why they need to be fixed is that you could be missing out on precious link equity as a result of the unnecessary redirect. So the way to fix this issue is to simply redirect the other page to the live page. That way link equity will now flow directly to the live page instead of through a buffer.
So how can you find a redirect chain? The best way to go about finding them is to use Screaming Frog SEO Spider once again. Enter the domain and start the analysis. After that start fixing all these existing redirect chains that your website has so you can start recapturing precious links that may alive. The other Micro issue that you need to fix is as follows. NB if you have an eCommerce website make attention to this. The first issue is;
- Thin content. keep in mind that thin content doesn’t add value to the users. Thin content doesn’t mean short word count. It can also mean that the page is regurgitated content where the content doesn’t bring anything new to the table. That is why Google’s Panda algorithm hates thin content. Being discussed that these pages need to be edited or eliminated because they will drag your website down. This is how you can find thin content on your website. Use Screaming Frog SEO Spider enter your target domain and start an analysis.
- Duplicate content. So duplicate content occurs when more than one page on your website has the same content. This applies to both content on the actual pages and your metadata as well. The reason why you wanna fix this duplicate content it doesn’t add value to your users. But more importantly, Google’s Panda algorithm hates it. With that said this is how you can find duplicate content. My recommendation to find duplicate content is to use Siteliner. All you need to do enter your URL and press enter key or click go. Once it is complete you will see all that have duplicate content and in my experience, the free version is more than enough to show you whether or not duplicate content is the issue in your particular website and also useful for SEO strategy.
Satisfy search intent seo strategy
The first stage of this process is to find keywords and build your keyword database for SEO strategy. To this goal, there are three of my favorite methods for finding keywords and content ideas. The first method;
- Answer the public enter your target keyword and run it you will get more long-tail ideas out of that.
- Relevant forum, I like this one you just need to open google and enter a simple search string such as fitness plus forum. Then google will give you a suggestion or relevant most searched keywords.
- Another thing you can join Quora and you will find relevant content people are talking about. Chose those topics and phrase a keyword from them.
Most people use google keyword planner that they want to go after. It is fine most common practice. But let upgrade this and show you five other different ways you can qualify your keyword and content ideas. That you can practically guarantee for success for any page that you’re going to create.
1. Search volume.
What you need to find search volume go to google keyword planner and enter your keyword. You will see how much search volume this specific keyword phrase get. Also another related keyword volume.
2. Use user signal
Basically where communities and where users engage on the platform through a process of commenting on things, like things, upvoting things, etc. This is all signals that people in your industry are interested in a particular topic. It’s extremely valuable because you are getting validation that the keyword content idea that you are going after. This topic is actually interesting and people in your industry are actually interested. This is very important before you put all this effort into creating a really great page.
You want to make sure that people actually care about the idea so using user signals is a great way to feel confident in those content.
This is how well the idea is trending at this particular time. So to find this information go to google trends and throw your keyword there. SEO strategy is useful with this trends.
This is to check how well the idea has performed on social media. To find this information use BuzzSumo. Go to BuzzSumo.com and enter your idea. BuzzSumo will show you all the social shares your ideas have generated.
Find the link worthiness of a topic is to use any popular link analysis tools, such as Ahrefs, Majestic, or even Open Site Explorer.
The importance of having these tactics is to avoid guessing what people are interested in. Instead, you are using the real data and signals to determine what topic you should be going after.
If you don’t satisfy search intent there is a high probability that you will not rank. The good news is its very easy to satisfy user intent.
N/B 1 It must be diffrent
You need to understand when it comes to creating effective keyword-targeted content. The first thing you need to understand if you want to create great and effective keyword targets and pages. Your page or blog post or whatever page you’re using a target that keyword needs to be different than what is currently ranking. This will you improve your SEO strategy.
N/B 2 10x more valuable.
It needs to be more valuable than what is currently ranking as well. You need to focus on how you’re going to differentiate your page against the pages that are currently ranking for SEO strategy. It is much easier to be different than more valuable.
